SLUGS

I feel sluggish in the summer sun.

But not the way you think.

I'm still up for having fun,

but near driven to the brink...

The brink of madness, fury road,

not due to some sunstroke,

No. Nature's on us bestowed

her idea of a joke.

One, eats its weight for heaven's sake

forty times a day!

Travels like a little snake,

leaving slime trails on its way.

I shout at slugs, (I know, absurd...),

“Little sucker!” – each one I find.

(Better, perhaps, than the other word

That comes rhymingly to mind.)
